If you have ears, this is a useful read for you.
This year, World Hearing Day is Tuesday, March 3rd 2020
Hearing for life: Don’t let hearing loss limit you, by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Here at Transform Hearing we wish to promote awareness for this year’s World Hearing Day 2020.
We are all connected to people, communities and healthy living through effective communication. Hearing is vital in all aspects of your life, whether it’s through work, socialising or simply watching TV. Hearing, just like your general health, must be looked after.
It is important for those with a hearing loss to seek appropriate and early intervention in order to continue living a fulfilled life. Providing available access to the appropriate solutions, such as hearing aids, is crucial in helping to achieve this.
The affected and the effects of hearing loss
Globally there are 466 million people who have a disabling hearing loss, according to WHO.¹ Action on Hearing Loss have found that 12 million of those are here in the UK. Almost 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 live with hearing loss, but the rate of identifying and treating this remains low.²
On average, people with hearing loss wait up to 10 years before seeking advice. If left untreated, a hearing loss can cause increased social isolation, depression and emotional distress. It can also increase the risk of dementia by up to five times.² There is evidence to show that hearing aids can help to reduce this risk, but we urge you to seek help during the early stages of experiencing any hearing loss. This will minimise any limitations.
